Founder's Message - Creative Aging

The good news is that we are living longer, with an average life expectancy of 78.6 years in the United States. However, as we age we are subject to a host of medical problems and often, financial ones as well. So, do we view aging as a glass that’s half full or half empty?

At Atlanta Theatre-To-Go, our mission is to fill the glass–to bring joy and a sense of community, to stimulate mental fitness and reveal creative abilities in our seniors. We are part of an emerging movement known as “creative aging.” The process of aging is a profound experience marked by increasing physical and emotional change and a heightened search for meaning and purpose. Creative expression is important for older people, regardless of economic status, age, or level of physical, emotional, or cognitive functioning. According to the National Center for Creative Aging, the arts serve as a powerful way to engage elders in a creative and healing process of self-expression that honors their life experience.

Atlanta Theatre-To-Go delivers live performances to entertain seniors and  interactive theatre including acting classes and memory theatre to engage them. As a touring company, we visit retirement communities, assisted living facilities, senior centers, church and synagogue groups, and civic organizations. Our boundaries are geographical, but our goal is limitless – to engage the human spirit.

All the best,
